2024-2025
Season Schedule

Mark your calendar for the 6 lessons this winter. Make up dates will be used if we have to cancel for weather.

Questions. Answered.

We ski at Powder Ridge - 15015 93rd Ave, Kimball, MN 55353 - (320) 398-7200

All skill levels are welcome at Tonkawood. We start with beginner lessons for any age and skiers progress throughout the series of lessons.

We will place your child in a lesson based on their skill level with the information you provide at sign up. The age of children in each lesson may vary as we organize by skill level and not age. After each lesson, the skills and development of each skier will be evaluated and kids may move between groups and skill levels throughout the 6 lessons.

We encourage all families to purchase gear that is appropriate for each child for the season. Each child should have appropriate winter clothing, mittens, neck gaiter, boots, skis and a helmet. Hand warmers make happy skiers and parents!

Hoigaards and Gear West Alpine are our retail partners. They have a full line up of new and used boots, skis, poles, helmets, clothing and winter accessories. Your Tonkawood Ski Schooler will NOT need poles until they are intermediate or advanced skiers so no need to purchase these until instructed.

Rental Program - Powder Ridge has skis, boots and poles available for a seasonal rental. The price is $199 and you get to take the equipment home each week and then turn it in at the end of the season. Identify yourself as a Tonkawood Parent for this pricing. If you plan on renting equipment you need to either get your gear prior to the first lesson or arrive an hour early for the first lesson to get fitted and ready to ski!

CHECKLIST

  • Skis - appropriate for size and skill level. For beginners and very young skiers, skis should be no higher than the child’s chest. Check for appropriate length. Safety bindings and ski brakes are required. (Hoigaards and Gear West can help!)
  • Boots - appropriate size and all buckles are working
  • Helmet - Full name on tape on front of helmet
  • Goggles
  • Warm Socks that are appropriate for skiing - make sure they are tight and don’t bunch in the boots
  • Layers of warm underwear - top and bottom
  • Warm snow pants
  • Warm jacket - Please attach Tonkawood Ski School Patch if you still have it - additional patches will be available on the first lesson.
  • Mittens or gloves that are designed for skiing
  • Hand Warmers
  • Neck gaiter that can cover chin and mouth
  • No poles unless instructed

Cancellation policy: If the temperature/wind chill is -10 degrees or lower, we may cancel the lesson. We will cancel lessons by 6am on Saturdays and by 8am for Sundays. We will send out an email and update our website and social media. Do not assume we have canceled unless you have been notified. There are days when the weather sounds questionable, but because of wind direction and other factors, we may decide to go forward with classes.

It is helpful to us to know if your child will be absent. Please email/text or call us before classes, even very early in the morning, with this information.
